Democratic Rep. Gene Taylor: I Voted for McCain

It's the ultimate in distancing yourself from your party: Rep. Gene Taylor, a Democrat from Mississippi, said in an interview with Mississippi's Sun Herald that he voted for Republican John McCain in the 2008 presidential election.

Taylor, at left, has often broken with his own party, and has repeatedly criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for being too liberal in this campaign cycle - even though he voted her to be speaker in 2007 and 2009.

He now says that's over.

"I will not support her for speaker again" Taylor said in the interview. "I'm very disappointed in how she's veered to the left."

Taylor said he would throw his support behind Missouri Rep. Ike Skelton, another moderate Democrat and the chair of the House Armed Services Committee.

Taylor has opposed Democrats on some of the Obama administration's key legislative victories. In September, he was the first Democrat to sign a petition to repeal the health care law.

The Mississippi congressman claims to be essentially independent.

"Both parties are screwed up. They're screwed up in different ways," he said.

Taylor's district is rated as "probable Democratic" hold, according to a CBS News analysis of the race, though his Republican opponent, Steven Palazzo, has made strides in recent weeks. Palazzo has stressed Taylor's past support for Pelosi.

Did he vote for a bill that includes the following provisions ? burdens on access to reproductive care for women ? discrimination in fees based on gender and age ? regressive cost assessments and taxes ? unfunded mandates on states that have been progressive in providing for their residents. ? for the self employed unemployed and those whose employers don't provide coverage a mandate that we pay thousands of dollars to the insurance cartel ? ??and now it turns out a reporting requirement that will force all small businesses to spend each January doing 1099's. If he did he needs to lose.

These are the kind of conservative DINOS we need to get rid of so we can move forward a liberal and progressive agenda. Boy, we certainly miss those "good ol' days" of the Bushoccio Crime Family. And we could have had more of the McSame. Earth to inbred Taylor: Pelosi is centrist to right, just like Obama. It's just that you are so far out to right field, you cannot even see the middle.

And you are proud of this? I would hang my head in shame Gene Taylor. Some people will do anything to get their name in print. Align yourself with the likes of Sarah Palin and Christine O'Donnell? If this country goes that way there is absolutely no hope for it at all. We will be doomed to an existence of hatred, continued selfishness, narcissism and biogtry. How can educated people in this country go along with this knee-jerk, hate-filled agenda? It is sickening.

He looks like the ultimate 'fence straddling' politician to me! But, he might just hang onto his seat, so he's somewhat of a fox!
